Scientific Games division SG Gaming announced that Group Managing Director Phil Horne has been appointed as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Horne will assume his new role on March 31, when current Executive Chairman Steve Frater is set to step down.
Mr. Frater is known for co-founding The Global Draw, which later on became an SG Gaming subsidiary together with Barcrest Group. He has been considered an instrumental figure for the introduction of licensed betting office gaming machines to the UK gambling market.
Commenting on his departure, Mr. Frater said that his career in the industry has been “an incredible journey” and that he is leaving SG Gaming in good hands. The executive also noted that the business is currently thriving with its “fantastic team.”
Mr. Frater revealed that the appointment of Mr. Horne as the gaming provider’s new CEO has long been planned and that now is a great time for the replacement to take place. The Executive Chairman said about his successor that his leadership will most certainly continue driving the company from strength to strength.
As for Mr. Horne, he called his predecessor an innovator in the gambling industry, whose vision and leadership has driven the company to where it is now. SG Gaming’s new CEO also said that he is proud to be given the opportunity to lead the business to its next phase of growth.
Mr. Horne has been in the gambling industry for quite some time now. He had spent 12 years as Gaming Director of major gambling operator Gala Coral Group. Mr. Horne was appointed as Group Managing Director of SG Gaming in March 2013.
As already mentioned, the newly appointed SG Gaming CEO is also co-founder and Managing Director of The Global Draw, a UK-based provider of gaming solutions for both online and land-based operations. The company was established in 1997 and has been operating as an SG Gaming and Scientific Games Corp. subsidiary since April 2006. Both The Global Draw and SG Gaming provide gaming products for licensed betting office, arcade, and bingo sectors in the United Kingdom. Currently, they operate more than 20,000 gaming machines across the country.
