The latest GPI update featured no changes in the ranking’s top 5. Irish poker pro Steve O’Dwyer still ranks 1st, following his more than impressive performance on the live poker circuit over the past year. The player currently has a total of 4,271.23 points.
O’Dwyer is followed by 2015 GPI Player of the Year Byron Kaverman with 4,236.76 points and PokerStars Team Pro member Jason Mercier with 4,103.12 points. Nicholas Petrangelo ranks 4th in the leaderboard with 4,040.37 points and Anthony Zinno is 5th with 3,940.04 points.
After winning the EPT Season 12 Dublin €25,750 High Roller 8-Handed for the first-place prize of €501,640 and 486.73 GPI points, Italian poker star Mustapha Kanit climbed 10 positions in the GPI ranking and is now taking 9th place with an overall of 3,733.02 points.
At the age of 24, the Alessandria-born poker pro is Italy’s most profitable player of all time. Kanit’s live tournament winnings currently amount to $6,065,335 and he boasts quite an impressive collection of poker titles.
The young Italian won three EPT high roller events for less than a year. First, he took down the EPT Season 11 Grand Final €50,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed to scoop a lion’s share of the prize pool totaling €936,500 and 376.67 GPI points. A few months later, Kanit topped the field of the EPT Season 12 Barcelona €10,300 High Roller 8-Max for €738,759 and 645.15 GPI points. Most recently, he emerged victorious in the EPT Season 12 Dublin €25,750 High Roller 8-Handed collecting €501,640 and 486.73 points.
Apart from his victories, the player has also made several final table appearances in equally prestigious tournaments over the past several months. During last year’s edition of the WSOP Europe, Kanit finished 3rd in the €25,600 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller for a payout of €227,145 and 366.84 GPI points. And in January, he took 4th place in the 2016 PCA $100,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed to collect the amount of $596,360 and 320.56 GPI points.
Apart from his accomplishments on the live tournament circuit, Kanit has been quite profitable online over the past several years. He can be spotted at the online poker tables of both PokerStars and Full Tilt. His online earnings currently amount to $4,203,118, with his largest cash totaling $1,304,720.
