Another week has passed and still there was no change in top 3 of the GPI leaderboard. Steve O’Dwyer has been topping the ranking for seven straight weeks now with a total of 4,340.45 points. The Irishman is closely followed by Byron Kaverman, who collected his statuette for becoming the 2015 GPI Player of the Year on Thursday, with 4,218.48 points. Jason Mercier is ranking 3rd with 4,131.90 points.
This week, the 4th place in the ranking is once again taken up by Nicholas Petrangelo with 4,084.95 points. And after GPI’s traditional Wednesday update, German Dominik Nitsche entered the leaderboard’s top 5 for the very first time in his career. The player has collected a total of 3,890.53 points over the past 36 months.
Poland’s Dzmitry Urbanovich is this week’s top 10 debutant. The player reached his best GPI rank after winning the EPT Season 12 Dublin €5,300 Main Event for €561,900 and 535.29 GPI points. Currently, the 20-year-old poker pro is taking 8th place in the prestigious leaderboard with 3,805.67 points.
The past year has been quite successful for the young player. He has won an EPT Main Event and an EPT High Roller, finished 2nd in two EPT High Roller tournaments, and cashed in a number of other major events. Given his age, the player could not be seen at the tables of the WSOP in previous years. However, Urbanovich is turning 21 this year and many believe that he will be among the headliners at the 2016 edition of the Series.
Looking back at his performance on the live circuit over the past year, the young player first amazed fans and fellow players by winning four events during the inaugural EPT Season 11 Malta poker festival, held in March 2015. And it is important to note that one of the tournaments was a €25,500 High Roller. Urbanovich collected the amount of €572,300 for his victory as well as 402.53 GPI points.
During the EPT Season 11 Grand Final, the player finished runner-up to Erik Seidel in the €100,000 Super High Roller to scoop a payout of €1,446,600 and 320.92 GPI points. A few months later, Urbanovich scored yet another 2nd place in an EPT High Roller tournament. He finished runner-up to Sylvain Loosli in the EPT Season 12 Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller 8-Max. His second-place finish secured him with a total of €841,500 of the entire prize pool and 350.80 GPI points.
Following his performance in these and a number of other live events, Urbanovich has collected a total of $4,828,346 in live tournament winnings since the beginning of his poker career.
