Another week without changes in GPI’s top 3 has passed. Steve O’Dwyer has made himself comfortable at the leaderboard’s top and has been there for eight consecutive weeks now with 4,408.92 points. Byron Kaverman, who was crowned the 2015 GPI Player of the Year, is 2nd with 4,134.78 points and Jason Mercier is 3rd with 4,134.78 points.
Following the latest update of the GPI ranking, American poker player Sean Winter entered its top 10 for the very first time in his career. Winter has collected a total of 3,690.46 points over the past 36 months. And his top 10 debut is mainly due to his excellent performance on the live circuit over the past several months.
In January, the player finished runner-up to Nick Maimone in the 2016 PCA $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Handed. His 2nd place in the tournament secured him with his biggest live cash of $914,580 and 566.15 GPI points. It was in January again when Winter took part in the Aria High Roller XXI and finished 5th for a payout of $51,600 and 257.94 GPI points. Last October, the player won one such Aria High Roller event, collecting $314,352 and 380.96 points.
Last year was Winter’s most successful one in terms of profits, as he managed to collect more than $1.6 million within 12 months. In August, he finished 3rd in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $25,400 High Roller. His share of the prize pool amounted to $245,500 and he also secured himself with 298.50 GPI points.
An important achievement last year was Winter’s 1st place in the Bellagio Cup XI $10,400 No-Limit Hold’em. The player was paid $562,772 for his performance and also added 429.12 GPI points. Late in December, he returned to Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to play in the WPT Alpha8 $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller. Winter finished 4th in the major tournament to take home $441,450. His performance also secured him with 290.13 points.
Overall, Winter has collected a total of $3,384,537 in live tournament winnings from 39 different events. The player has been spotted at the tables of some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments, with the WSOP, WPT, and EPT being only several of those.
