Lifestyle

After several weeks of no changes in top 3 of the GPI, the latest update of the prestigious poker ranking showed certain movement there. Steve O’Dwyer is still 1st with 4,408.92 points collected over the past 36 months. The Irishman has been topping the leaderboard for the past nine weeks. O’Dwyer is followed by Byron Kaverman, who has accumulated 4,131.99 points. Bryn Kenney has become this week’s notable returnee to top 3 after an eight-month absence.

Interestingly enough, Kenney has left top 10 of the leaderboard only twice since December 24, 2014. This week, the GPL New York Rounders Team Manager ranks 3rd with a total of 4,064.73 points. Last week, the player from Long Beach, New York topped the field of the Aria High Roller XXVII, a high roller event with a buy-in fee of $25,000, to collect the first-place prize of $422,400 and to add 453.62 points to his GPI score. Thus, his triumph at Aria Resort & Casino secured him with his 3rd place in the ranking.

It is also important to note that Kenney started 2016 with a major success. The player won the 2016 PCA $100,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed event, good for $1,687,800 and 486.73 GPI points. During this year’s edition of the PCA, Kenney cashed in another high roller – the $50,000 8-Handed one. He took 7th place in that one, scooping $185,280 of the entire prize pool and 292.02 GPI points.

Last year was also quite successful for the New York resident. In November, he took 3rd place in the APPT Asia Championship of Poker HK$500,000 High Roller for a payout of HK$3,635,000 and 339.62 points. A month earlier, he was seen at the tables of the EPT Season 12 Malta poker festival, where he finished 7th in the €10,300 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller. His payout from the tournament totaled €72,730 and he also collected 350.04 points.

Earlier in 2015, Kenney almost won a WSOP event but fell short of luck and had to settle for a second-place finish in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em, adding $287,870 to his bankroll and 314.22 points to his GPI score.

Over the past several years, the player has cashed in a number of other prestigious events, as well. Overall, his live tournament winnings amount to $9,184,907 and the biggest live cash he has collected so far was the amount of $1,687,800 he received for taking down this year’s PCA Super High Roller.
