David Peters Makes GPI Top 10 Comeback

Lifestyle

Following this Wednesday’s update of the GPI ranking, Ohio-based poker professional David Peters now ranks 9th, after spending almost two months outside top 10 of the leaderboard. Peters has collected a total of 3,733.56 points within the span of the past 36 months.

Peters’ top 10 comeback could be attributed to a great extent to his 4th place in the $25,000 Aria High Roller XXVII, held last Saturday. The player scooped $84,480 for his performance as well as 287.44 GPI points. It could also be said that he has started the year quite well. Early in January, he finished runner-up to German Fedor Holz in the first-ever WPT National Philippines $200,000 Triton Super High Roller Series. Peters received $2,309,000 for his efforts and added 390.55 points to his GPI score.

Only a few days later, he appeared at the final table of another high roller event. The player took 5th place in the PCA $100,000 Super High Roller 8-Handed. There, he collected a payout of $461,340 and 293.81 points.

High roller tournaments seem to be Peters’ specialty. Late last year, the player topped the field of one such event – the $25,000 Aria High Roller XXI. His share of the prize pool amounted to $426,240. In addition, he scooped 432.85 GPI points for his performance. In 2015, the Ohio resident took down one more event with a higher buy-in fee. During the inaugural EPT Season 11 Malta poker festival, he emerged victorious in the €10,300 High Roller for €597,000 and 440.27 GPI points.

Last summer, Peters also performed quite well in the first edition of the Super High Roller Bowl. The $500,000 buy-in event attracted a field of 43 of the world’s best high roller players. Peters took 5th place in the tournament to receive the amount of $1,505,000 and 193.45 points for his GPI score.

Overall, the player has cashed in a total of 145 different live events over the past ten years. He boasts several titles and has appeared at the final tables of some of the world’s most prestigious poker events. His live tournament earnings currently amount to more than $10 million. It is also interesting to note that the player is currently ranking 1st in the Ohio all-time money list and 21st in the US all-time money list.
