Bertrand Grospellier on Verge of Leaving GPI Top 300

Lifestyle

After this week’s update of the GPI leaderboard was released on Wednesday, it could be seen that French poker professional Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier dropped 22 positions and is now taking 299th place. With that said, the Frenchman is in real danger of becoming the second former GPI #1 to drop out of the ranking’s top 300. The first one was Vanessa Selbst, who is now taking 469th place.

Grospellier’s current GPI rank could mainly be attributed to the fact that he has not been quite active on the live tournament circuit over the past 36 months and has not collected any significant live cashes and GPI points, respectively. The player currently has a total of 1,675.33 points.

Most recently, the Frenchman finished 117th in the 2016 PCA/LAPT Bahamas $2,200 Main Event, scooping a small payout of $3,640 and 106.46 points. During the EPT Season 12 Malta stop last December, the player cashed in the €10,300 No-Limit High Roller. Finishing 21st in the event, he took home €22,000 and added 236.97 points to his GPI score.

Grospellier was also seen at the tables of the EPT Season 12 Barcelona, where he took 99th place in the €2,200 Estrellas High Roller, collecting €4,150 and 102.11 GPI points, and finished 55th in the €10,300 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Max for €21,000 and 172.45 GPI points.

Overall, the French poker pro has a total of $10,992,427 in live tournament earnings. And as it could be seen, he has not collected the greater portion of that amount within the past three years.

Here it is important to note that Grospellier is one of few players to have won a WSOP, WPT, and an EPT titles, or the Triple Crown, as the three tournaments are referred to as when combined. His EPT title came first. Early in 2008, the player topped a field of 1,136 entries to win the PCA $8,000 Main Event for his biggest live cash of $2,000,000.

His WPT title came only a few months later. Grospellier emerged victorious in the WPT Festa Al Lago Classic $15,400 Championship for a first-place prize of $1,411,015. It took him about three years to capture his third Triple Crown title. During the 2011 edition of the WSOP, the Frenchman won the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship for his first gold bracelet and the amount of $331,639.

The player also boasts a number of other victories and final-table finishes at prestigious events. And apart from his achievements on the live circuit scene, Grospellier is also known to be one of the world’s most accomplished online players. ElkY, as he is better known online, is one of the PokerStars’ highest earners of all-time and has become the first-ever player to reach the Supernova Elite rank in the card room’s VIP club. His online achievements include two WCOOP titles and one SCOOP title.
