Pablo Gordillo has become the first Estrellas Poker Tour Season 7 winner. Spain’s most popular poker series stopped at Casino Gran Madrid for an exciting Season 7 opening festival, taking place from March 7-13. Quite expectedly, the €1,100 Main Event attracted more attention than any other event on the schedule. Gordillo topped a massive field to collect the amount of €78,444 and score the first major victory in his career.
Prior to his latest achievement, Gordillo has cashed in a number of prestigious events. For instance, he finished 4th in the EPT Season 10 Vienna €5,300 Main Event for a payout of €262,150, his career largest. Overall, the player’s live tournament winnings currently amount to more than €540,000.
The Estrellas Poker Tour Season 7 Madrid €1,100 Main Event attracted a field of 491 entries who created a prize pool €471,360. Although the field was indeed massive, the Main Event did not attract as much attention as last year, when as many as 579 players took part in it and created a record €552,000 prize pool.
The tournament kicked off on March 9. It featured two starting flights and three more days of play to be concluded on Sunday, March 13. The event’s final day saw eight players return to play down to a champion. Eight-handed action started with Mario Navarro as the chip leader with 2,535,000. The player was closely followed by Sergio Cabrera with 2,515,000. Gordillo was third in chips at that point with a total of 1,630,000.
Roberto Sancristóbal was the first to hit the rail on Day 4 of the event. He was eliminated in 8th place by David Flores to collect the amount of €10,420. Israel Lao was the next to go. The player took 7th place in the tournament for €14,940.
David Tovar was then eliminated in 6th place by Sergio Cabrera for a payout of €19,840. Cabrera also busted Mario Navarro in 5th place. The latter took home €25,400 for his efforts. Shortly after, David Flores was eliminated in 4th place, collecting €32,330 of the entire prize pool. It took some time before another player left the final table. Eventually, Javier de Vicente was busted in 3rd place, good for €41,060.
De Vicente’s elimination set the heads-up match between Gordillo and Cabrera. Two-handed action kicked off with Cabrera as the chip leader with 8,940,000. His opponent had a total of 3,185,000. At a certain point, the two players agreed on a two-handed deal, under which Cabrera was to take €78,444 and Gordillo would collect €64,846. The remaining €5,000 would be handed to the champion.
On what turned out to be the last hand in play, Gordillo tabled [4s][7h] and Cabrera turned [5d][9d]. The board ran out [Jh][2s][8h][9s][10d] and it became clear that it was Gordillo who would take home the tournament trophy.
