Ontario Gaming East Limited Partnership, which was selected as the service provider for Ontario’s East Gaming Bundle in September 2015, announced on Tuesday that it is to move forward with the proposed establishment of a new casino complex in Peterborough. If the venture proves to be successful, the slot machine venue at Kawartha Downs will eventually be relocated. The new property will be yet another of the Shorelines chain of casinos across the Canadian province.
Commenting on the news about the project moving forward, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation Executive Director of Ontario Operations Andy LaCroix said that they are really excited to potentially open a new Shorelines gambling venue, one to be located in Peterborough. However, the official pointed out that they are well-aware of the fact that they will have to receive a number of approvals in order to be able to proceed with their plan.
Peterborough officials, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, and the Ontario government will first have to back the ambitious project. Mr. LaCroix added that Ontario Gaming East will do its best to turn into an “employer of choice and an economic contributor” for Peterborough and its residents.
The gambling operator will now have to go through a formal process with Peterborough officials, which is set to commence in alignment with the city’s bylaw and zoning procedures.
As mentioned above, Ontario Gaming East LP was selected as the preferred candidate for managing the gambling operations in Ontario’s East Gaming Bundle 2 or East Gaming Bundle. Generally speaking, the said bundle is comprised of three gaming zones. The first one includes Peterborough as well as the Township of Cavan Monaghan. The area is served by the Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs.
The second zone includes Belleville, where a new casino is to be launched in the years to come, and the Quinte West municipality. As for the third gaming zone, it includes Kingston and nearby areas, with Leeds, Thousand Islands, and Gananoque being among those. At present, the third zone is served by Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands.
Ontario Gaming East LP is an entity, owned in the greater part by Great Canadian Gaming Corp. The said corporation currently manages casino, entertainment, and hospitality venues around Canada, with Ontario, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia being among the provinces to host such venues.
