After spending several weeks outside GPI’s top 3, American poker pro Jason Mercier returned to the roster of players with the most points in what has been the world’s most prestigious poker ranking for some time now. Mercier is taking 3rd position after the most recent update of the popular leaderboard with 4,006.60 points accumulated over the past 36 months. Steve O’Dwyer with 4,379.31 points and Bryn Kenney with 4,192.98 points are the only two players ranking higher than him, with the former topping the leaderboard for sixteen weeks now.
The 29-year-old Florida resident is quite a big name in the world of poker. With his three WSOP gold bracelets, one EPT title, and numerous other victories in prestigious tournaments, it is no surprise that he is considered one of the world’s best poker players. What is more, the player has collected a total of $16,422,563 in live tournament earnings since the beginning of his impressive career. He could also be seen at the online poker tables of PokerStars and Full Tilt. The player has won more than $2 million in online poker winnings so far.
Most recently, Mercier topped the field of the EPT Season 12 Dublin €5,200 No-Limit Hold’em Hyperturbo for €37,890 and 266.35 points. A third-place finish in the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$100,000 Challenge secured the player with a payout of A$602,700 and 313.46 points.
Early in 2016, he took 20th place in the 2016 PCA $5,300 Main Event, adding $32,360 to his poker bankroll and 307.10 points to his GPI score.
Last summer, Mercier won the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $25,400 High Roller. Apart from the $517,187 share of the prize pool, the player also collected 397.27 GPI points. The player also performed more than well during the 46th Annual WSOP. He cashed in four events, made three final table appearances, and won a gold bracelet.
The player triumphed in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed for his third-ever WSOP gold piece, the first-place prize of $633,357, and 370.47 GPI points. He next finished 7th in the $50,000 Players Championship for a payout of $139,265 and 223.40 points. Mercier also finished runner-up in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, scooping $572,989 of the entire prize pool and 391.25 points.
Over the past 36 months, the player has also won and cashed in a number of other tournaments, winning his portion of considerable prize pools and adding points to his GPI score.
