Pennsylvania Full-Year Casino Revenue Up 3.6%

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released on Monday information about the financial performance of the state’s gambling venues in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016. Overall gross gaming revenue was up 3.6% year-on-year to $3.23 billion. Pennsylvania has reached its highest in terms of proceeds from its casinos since the 2010/2011 fiscal year when table games were first introduced in the state.

During the twelve months ended June 30, Pennsylvania’s gambling venues generated slot machine revenue of $2.39 billion, up from the amount of $2.33 billion posted for the same period of the previous year.

Of all 12 casinos to be operating within the state’s borders, Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem was the one to report the biggest increase in annual slot machine revenue. It was up 5.69% year-on-year to $305.4 million for the 2015/2016 financial year. Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh posted the biggest drop in slot machine revenue. It amounted to $272 million, down 2.11% year-on-year. Yet, Parx Casino was the top performer during the reviewed twelve months. The casino posted full-year slot machine revenue of $388.3 million, up 4.8% year-on-year.

Gross table games revenue for the reviewed twelve months amounted to $839.2 million. In comparison, the table games at local casino generated a total of $779.7 million in the 2014/2015 fiscal year.

Valley Forge Casino Resort, located not far from Philadelphia, was the casino to report the biggest full-year growth in table games revenue. It was up 13.27% from the previous year to reach $36.9 million. Mohegan Sun Pocono in Wilkes-Barre posted the biggest decrease of 7.24%. The gambling venue generated table games revenue of $45.7 million. Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem was the top performer with full-year table games revenue of $228.2 million.

The state gambling regulator also posted separate results for the performance of all 12 gambling venues in June. Slot machine revenue amounted to $190 million last month, down 1.08% year-on-year. There were 26,634 slot machines operating in the local casinos in June, compared to 26,388 featured during the same month of 2015. Monthly revenue from table games amounted to $68.4 million, up 2.15% year-on-year.

As already mentioned, there are 12 operating casinos in Pennsylvania. Of these, 10 are either stand-alone casinos or combined racetrack casinos. In addition, there are two casino resorts to be providing gambling and other entertainment services. All gambling venues generated $1.4 billion in full-year tax revenue to the state.
