Gus Hansen Resumes Playing Online Poker Cash Games

Danish poker professional Gus Hansen has reportedly made an online poker comeback after a nineteen-month hiatus. Formerly a Full Tilt ambassador, The Great Dane had lost close to $21 million in 1,572,615 hands played over an eight-year span on what had been known as world’s second biggest poker room before it had its player pool merged with PokerStars’ earlier this year.

Hansen used to be a regular high stakes cash game player on Full Tilt’s online tables. Losing a total of $20,737,007 made him one of the most unfortunate, if not the most unfortunate, online players in history. According to HighstakesDB, the Danish poker pro had also racked up almost $1.3 million in losses on PokerStars.

Hansen was last seen playing poker online in January 2015. He also disappeared from the live poker scene. And with so much accumulated in losses, his decision to keep a low profile barely surprised anyone. However, it seems that the Danish player has decided that it was time to come back both to the live and online poker tables.

A few weeks ago, Daniel Negreanu posted on his Twitter page a picture of Hansen playing a $1,500-$3,000 Mixed Game at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. Negreanu himself as well as pros like Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, and Jennifer Harman were, too, among those to compete in the game.

Last week, Hansen was also seen playing on PokerStars under the screen name ‘broksi’. He took part in smaller stakes games – mostly $200/$400 and $300/$600 Triple Draw, FLO8, and Limit Omaha Hi/Lo ones. As reported, he won about $55,500 playing those.

Despite his misfortunes in online cash games, Hansen has made a terrific career in live tournament poker. Winning more than $10 million in live events, he ranks 2nd in his home country’s all-time money list. It is also interesting to note that he is one of the very few players to have won three WPT titles, with Carlos Mortensen, Anthony Zinno, and David ‘Chino’ Rheem being the other three to have accomplished this feat.

The Danish player is also a one-time Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event winner and a Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament champion. Multiple in-the-money finishes in some of the world’s most prestigious events also comprise Hansen’s cash history.
