Developer and supplier of online casino games and related promotional tools Yggdrasil Gaming today announced that it has become the latest industry representative to have been licensed by Oficiul National pentru Jocuri de Noroc, or the Romanian gambling authority. Romania opened its market for international service providers last year and started granting full licenses to interested parties earlier in 2016.
Yggdrasil Gaming, in particular, has received two licenses by the Romanian gambling authority. These allow the company to host online gaming platforms and to provide licensed operators with its games and promotional tools. A selection of Yggdrasil Gaming’s most popular titles, including the recently launched Bicicleta football-themed slot, will initially go live with Category 1 license holders operating in Romania.
As mentioned above, operators will also be able to deploy the supplier’s in-game promotional tools, with BOOST and the recently rolled out BRAG social media tool, which gives players the chance to share their spins on social media, being among those.
Of his company’s entry into the newly regulated Romanian online gambling market, Yggdrasil Gaming CEO Fredrik Elmqvist said that the local license is yet another indication of the supplier’s commitment to regulated markets. The executive further noted that they are working hard to extend their reach into regulated markets and that they expect to receive more licenses from regulated European jurisdictions in the months to come.
Apart from its most recent Romanian license, the company also holds ones by the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission, and the Government of Gibraltar.
Yggdrasil Gaming has been the latest of a number of international gambling companies to have been licensed to provide their services in Romania over the past several months. The country officially re-regulated its market last year, adopting a legislative framework based on ones previously introduced by other European jurisdictions.
It all shows that the country’s new legislation has presented conditions and an overall regulatory environment that have been found appealing by some of the industry’s biggest names, including NetEnt, Mircogaming, and NYX Gaming, 888 Holdings, PokerStars, and many more. All these have been licensed to operate and provide their online gambling content within the country’s borders.
