Maryland Casino Revenue Rises 11% in September

Maryland Lottery and Gaming published information about the state’s five casinos’ financial performance in September 2016. Overall casino revenue amounted to $97.1 million last month, reflecting an 11% growth from the same month of the previous year.

There are five casinos operating within Maryland’s borders. A sixth gambling venue is set to open doors on December 8 as part of the MGM National Harbor complex in Prince George’s County. Major operator MGM Resorts International is bringing the integrated resort experience to the state with the multi-billion property set to become the latest jewel added to its extensive portfolio of combined, multi-purpose hotel and casino venues.

A portion of the revenue generated by Maryland’s existing gambling venues is contributed to a specially established Education Trust Fund as well as to small, minority- and women-owned businesses. The state horse industry is also supported with the funds contributed.

For yet another month, Maryland Live! Casino was the state’s most profitable gambling venue. The casino generated a total of $53.9 million in September, up 8.8% year-on-year. The property featured 3,907 slot machines, and 154 banked and 52 non-banked table games. Average daily revenue per unit amounted to $278.37 for slots, $4,158.19 for banked table games, and $1,306.02 for non-banked ones.

Revenue at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore totaled $26.9 million last month, reflecting a 21.6% increase from the same month of the previous year. The casino operated 2,202 slot machines, 154 banked table games, and 25 non-banked ones. Slot machine revenue amounted to $218.43 per unit per day. Banked table games generated an average of $2,569.99 per unit per day. Non-banked table game revenue per unit per day amounted to $823.68.

Hollywood Casino Perryville was the third highest grossing gambling venue in Maryland last month. The property generated the amount of $5.9 million, down 4.6% when compared to what was posted for September 2015. There were 850 slot machines, 12 banked and 10 non-banked table games featured at the casino last month. Slot machines generated daily average revenue of $195.43 per unit. Revenue for banked table games totaled $2,370.37 per unit per day. Non-banking table games generated $279.6 per unit per day.

Casino at Ocean Downs posted revenue of $5.875 million last month, up 2.9% year-on-year. The property featured 800 slot machines and no table games. Average gaming revenue per unit per day totaled $163.33.

Revenue at Rocky Gap Casino Resort amounted to $4.4 million in September, up 14.9% from the same month of the previous year. The gambling venue featured 634 slot machines and 17 banked table games last month. Average daily gaming revenue per unit amounted to $194.43 for slots and $1,438.31 for table games.
