Playtech Launches Live Casino Studio in Romania

News

Playtech has become the latest iGaming technology and service provider to expand into the newly regulated Romanian market. The company announced that it has opened a new live casino studio in the country after being granted four licenses by the local gambling regulator – Oficiul National pentru Jocuri de Noroc.

The new facility features new and traditional variants of popular casino table games, including live roulette, blackjack, and casino hold’em. Tables are served by native dealers and are streamed via high-quality HD equipment. Playtech’s live casino product is available across both desktop and mobile.

Commenting on the live casino studio launch, Playtech CEO Mor Weizer said that the company has made another important step towards solidifying its position as a market leader. Playtech runs live casino facilities in a number of other regulated European jurisdictions as well as in Manila.

Romania has become an attractive destination for leading iGaming operators and service suppliers. This is why Playtech’s presence in the market does not come as a surprise. The company said that it has decided to expand into the East European country so as to be able to cater to the great demand of licensees.

The Romanian market was officially regulated on December 30, 2014, when its new gambling law – Government Emergency Ordinance 92/2014, was published in the country’s Official Gazette. Romanian lawmakers took from here and there, that is from jurisdictions with regulated markets, to set what should be an effective framework for the regulation of online gambling.

The local gambling regulator started granting licenses to interested operators and suppliers in 2016. Since then, dozens of companies, some of which holding leadership positions in the global gambling market, have entered the newly regulated jurisdiction.

Online gambling regulation is set to become an even more broadly discussed topic in the years to come. Growing pressure from European lawmakers and the increasing demand for iGaming products will certainly urge more and more country officials to revisit their gambling laws in a manner that would respond to the current and future trends. And to respond to the demand, both operators and providers have made expansion into regulated jurisdiction an important part of their growth strategies.
