Sweden’s compris Wins World Championship of Online Poker Event #75-H $10,300 High Roller 8-Game

Lifestyle

This year’s edition of PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker has entered its closing stages with the Main Event now being underway. And while there are players from all around the world that are currently squaring off for the 2017 Main Event title, others have already won big from the online poker festival and are probably in the mood for celebration.

Sweden’s compris is one such player. He has just topped the field of Event #75-H $10,300 High Roller 8-Game for a first-place prize of $247,975 and his second COOP title this year. The player took down a SCOOP No-Limit Hold’em event this spring, banking over $320,000 for his efforts.

The 8-Game triumph came after hours of quality poker action and as the event’s name suggests, it involved eight different poker games. The tournament attracted a field of 60 unique participants and 31 re-entries, who brought the field to 91 entries. That generated a prize pool of $910,000, which was split in 12 portions, with the largest one going to the winner. A player from Finland, villepn, was the one to burst the bubble.

Final Table Action

The tournament’s final table featured six players from different corners of the world. The eventual winner – compris – entered six-handed play with 1,178,889 in chips. He was running second at the time, with RuNGodlike being the sole player ahead of him with 1,293,723. It is also important to note that they were the only two players to have extended their chip stacks beyond the one-million mark.

The final table participants were all players with quite a lot of experience in the online poker field. And most of them had previous COOP success. For instance, the pack of final tablists included Luke ‘lb6121’ Schwartz, who boasted five SCOOP titles and a Sunday Million one from last summer. However, it was not meant for the player to extend his collection. He eventually took fourth place in the high roller for $86,450, which was not a bad payday.

After tough battling and competition, the field was reduced to just compris and Brazil’s Yuri ‘theNERDguy’ Martins. Aside from his performance on the online poker stage, Martins has also been quite successful on the live felt. The player is a one-time LAPT Grand Final champion. He has also cashed in a number of other live tournaments over the course of his career.

Heads-up in the WCOOP High Roller began with compris holding two times more chips than his final opponent. Martins evened out the stacks during Stud 8. And things remained almost unchanged during the Pot-Limit Omaha game that followed. Triple Draw was the game that allowed compris to unleash his potential. The player quickly overcame the slight chip lead his opponent had accumulated during the previous level and made his way to the title. Martins eventually collected $166,075 for his runner-up finish in the tournament.
