The WSOP Circuit Seminole Hard Rock Main Event is entering its final day with 14 players still in contention for the first-place prize of $257,638, the gold ring, and the automatic entry into the season-ending Global Casino Championship.

Asher Conniff, a player who started Day 2 of the event as one of the short stacks, emerged to the position of a chip leader after accumulating an impressive chip stack. At the time cards were thrown in the air for Day 2 action, Conniff had just 19,000 in chips, which he multiplied to 3.23 million by the end of the day.

Conniff will kick off the tournament’s final day as the only player to have passed the three-million chip mark and with huge advantage over his remaining opponents. Three-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Brian Hastings ranked second in chips last night with a total of 2.01 million. The player is well-positioned to win his first gold ring.

Day 2 of the Main Event

Day 2 of the Seminole Hard Rock Main Event began with 162 players, who progressed from Days 1A and 1B. The tournament attracted an overall field of 904 entries who generated a prize pool of $1,356,000. The top 99 places are to be paid and the bubble burst not long after Day 2 play kicked off.

Action unfolded quite quickly. Within a 20-minute span, the field was reduced to just 130 contestants. And the money was reached towards the end of the second level for the day. John Idarraga was the unfortunate bubble boy. The player exited in 100th place after cards did not go his way in an all-in confrontation against Barry Hutter.

Hutter did not make it through the day but he was among the handful of former gold bracelet winners to cash in the Main Event. Loni Harwood, Erik Cajelais, and James Calderaro, all of them gold bracelet holders, were also among the participants to cash from the event.

The tournament’s final day is set to be played today. Action will resume at noon local time and the remaining participants will first play down to the final table and then to a champion. Each of the 14 finalists is guaranteed a minimum payout of $16,299.

The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida is currently playing host to the WSOP Circuit. The current stop on the schedule of the popular poker series is set to be completed today with the conclusion of the $1,675 Main Event.

A separate WSOP Circuit is also currently hosted by Horseshoe Southern Indiana, where two gold rings have already found their new owners and there are ten more pieces up for grabs. The poker series will next be headed to Horseshoe Hammond in the Chicago Area, Indiana where gold ring events will be taking place from October 12 through October 23.
