When it comes to gambling legislation in Andorra, the country has been making the headlines recently. Despite being defined as a microstate, Andorra is believed to have all chances for developing its gambling sector and establishing a casino venue for its 85,000 residents.
What made Andorra authorities continue making attempts for expanding the gambling industry and building a casino was the fact that they realized the financial benefits such a venture would bring.
It is a well-known fact that Andorra is among the most affluent European regions mainly because of its extremely developed tourism industry. In addition to the establishment of a brick-and-mortar casino, people in charge of gambling affairs announced that the online gambling market is also to be taken into account.
Apparently, local authorities have understood that the establishment of a casino venue would be advantageous to Andorra as this would attract even more tourists and therefore the economy would be significantly boosted.
The reason why Andorra is such a desirable tourist destination is its location and the beautiful Pyrenees.
Despite the fact that the expansion of the gambling sector has been on the agenda for a pretty long period of time, it was not until the end of 2014 when a more significant progress towards the legislation was reported.
According to the information revealed by local authorities, the idea for establishment of a land-based casino is to be discussed prior to figuring out the details, related to the online gambling market.
As for the latter, the gambling officials are currently discussing the laws and respectively players’ and providers’ rights and responsibilities.
Although authorities are making a lot of attempts to accelerate the legislation procedure, Minister Antoni Riberaygua announced that the online gambling market is not to become regulated before the summer.
In other words, all providers of gambling products and services will have to wait a few more months before entering the regulated online gambling market of Andorra.
Although gaming officials have decided to give the nod to the traditional casino activities first, market analysts believe that the online gambling market would bring higher revenues.
What makes them so convinced of the bright future of the online gambling sector of Andorra is the fact that, for the time being, there will be only one brick-and-mortar casino on its territory while the online gaming sites will be accessible to every resident regardless of their whereabouts.
