Dan Shak Leaves GPI Top 300 for the Very First Time

Lifestyle

Not much movement could be seen in the GPI leaderboard after its traditional Wednesday update. Top 3 of the ranking remained unchanged with Jason Mercier, Byron Kaverman, and Anthony Zinno being there. What is more, little movement was seen in its top 10 as well.

A few players entered top 300 of the leaderboard for the first time, with Griffin Paul, Antonin Duda, and Jason Les being among them. It is also interesting to note that semi-professional poker player Dan Shak left top 300 of the prestigious ranking for the very first time since it has first been released back in June 2011. In other words, he spent more than 4 years among the elite group of the world’s most profitable and successful players.

Although the 56-year-old hedge fund manager and part-time poker player has not won a WSOP, WPT, or an EPT title, he has collected a total of $7,472,961 in live tournament winnings since 2004 when he captured his first live cash.

Shak’s first major achievement was his 1st place in the special 2007 WSOP $5,000 Ante Up for Africa Charity Event when he won $243,893. In January 2010, the player topped the field of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship A$100,000 Challenge to scoop the amount of A$1,200,000 ($1,107,553), the second best cash in his career.

In January 2012, Shak finished runner-up to Swedish poker pro Viktor Blom in the PCA $100,00 No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller to collect a payout of $846,700. In March 2013, he won the partypoker Premier League Poker VI $125,000 No-Limit Hold’em and received $528,000 for his triumph.

In January 2014, Shak captured his best live cash so far. He almost won the PCA $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller but had to content himself with the runner-up finish after he could not make it against German Fabian Quoss. Shak added the amount of $1,178,980 to his poker bankroll for his 2nd place.

This year, the player cashed only in two events – the Aria High Roller XIII $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em, where he finished 5th for a payout of $49,200, and the WSOP $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Hyper Turbo, where he took 96th place for $2,416.

Shak currently ranks 305th in the GPI leaderboard with a total of 1,668.31 points collected since the beginning of the year. As for his GPI Player of the Year rank, the player is now 3086th with 333.39 points.
