David Peters has just won the latest $50,000 Aria Super High Roller tournament after defeating some of the world’s fiercest high rollers to collect $511,970 in prize money and a shiny Aria trophy. With that, the player increased his live tournament earnings to more than $14 million.
The 13th Aria Super High Roller event was held at the Las Vegas-based gambling venue on November 19. The $50,000 buy-in tournament drew 30 entries, most of whom familiar Aria faces. A prize pool of $1,440,000 was accumulated and there were payouts for the top five performers. The minimum payout totaled $86,400 and went to Dan Smith who won the $25,000 Aria High Roller 51 the day before.
Peters ultimately faced Erik Seidel heads-up. The two-handed match was set well past midnight on November 20 and lasted around an hour and a half. Action between the two high roller specialists kicked off slowly with chip stacks remaining almost unchanged for some time.
Eventually, the two players decided to chop the prize pool based on their chip counts, leaving $50,000 for the winner. Seidel was the short stack at that point. Shortly after, he was sent to the rail in 2nd place, collecting $510,430 for his efforts.
Thomas Marchese took 3rd place in the latest Aria Super High Roller, good for $201,600. Isaac Haxton finished 4th for a payout of $129,600. As mentioned above, Dan Smith took 5th place, scooping $86,400.
In fact, Smith and Peters faced each other only a day before in the Aria High Roller 51. The two players were the last survivors in the tournament but it was Smith who emerged victorious after what has been described as an epic heads-up battle. Peters, on the other hand, took $168,400 for his runner-up finish.
Peters, an Ohio-resident, won another high roller event only ten days ago. The player took down the 2016 ACOP Macau HK$250,000 High Roller, good for HK$4,885,200. With live tournament winnings of more than $14 million and online earnings of over $5 million, Peters is indisputably one of the world’s most profitable poker players of our time.
He boasts numerous high roller titles and in-the-money finishes in some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. Earlier this year, the player captured his first WSOP gold bracelet for winning a $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament on the festival’s 2016 schedule.
