King’s Casino in the small Czech town of Rozvadov is currently steaming with action just as it has been steaming with action over the past several years. The ongoing GPT German Poker Tour – Christmas Edition is what has been creating all the fuss and buzz over the past few days at the popular gambling venue.
The festival kicked off on Monday, December 25, and has already crowned the winners of several of the events on its schedule. The big winner – the GPT German Poker Tour €299 Main Event champion – is yet to be revealed. Their name will become clear on Saturday, December 30, when the €200,000 guaranteed tournament’s final day will be played. While waiting for tomorrow’s final day action, here is a quick read about who scooped what from the festival over the past several days.
The opening event was a €115 No-Limit Hold’em Christmas Deepstack with a guaranteed prize pool of €20,000. As many as 181 entries joined the field of the single-day event. Germany’s Adem Kacir and Marc-Andre Fritz made it to heads-up only to split what had left of the prize pool into two even portions of €3,832.
The single-day €115 King’s Hold’em Championship, which took place on December 26, was the next event to crown a victor. The name of that victor was Christophe Bellings. The Belgian collected a payout of €2,611 for remaining the last man standing on the felt. The event saw 87 entries, of whom 11 received a payout.
A player nicknamed “El Turco” took down the €110 buy-in King’s Omaha Challenge on December 27. His share of the guaranteed €5,000 prize pool totaled €2,335. The tournament attracted as many as 84 entries.
Mike Nguyen beat a field of 212 entries to win the December 27 €115 King’s Hold’em Championship. The player received €3,830 after a three-way deal with Omer Zararsiz and Walter Josef Strohmeier.
Last but not least, Slovakia’s Marek Blaško emerged the victor from the 268-strong field of the €110 King’s Hold’em Championship on December 28. The player struck a three-way deal with Sandro Pitzanti and a player nicknamed “TM” to eventually collect €4,701 as the winner. The other two received €3,700 and €3,661, respectively.
What to Expect Next from the Festival?
Day 2 of the festival’s Main Event is now played at the host venue, King’s Casino. The €299 buy-in tournament kicked off with three starting flights, played over three separate days. Day 1A was played on Tuesday and attracted 89 entries. Of those, only 30 survived through the day to progress to Day 2. The Day 1A hopefuls were led by Matthias Winkler who bagged and tagged 369,800 in chips on Tuesday night.
As many as 237 players entered Day 1B of the event. The number of survivors was reduced to just 48 by the end of the day. Local player Martin Šlajer was the one to bag the chip lead of the second starting flight with 459,900 in chips.
Other 413 entries joined the field of the tournament on Day 1C, and 121 of them progressed into Day 2. Brazil’s Thiago scooped the chip lead on Thursday when the third starting flight was played with 470,300 in chips. The player entered Day 2 of the event as the overall chip leader.
Day 2 action has already kicked off at King’s Casino. Players interested to enter the event were able to take advantage of the late registration option as the registration desk remained open until Level 1 on Day 2.
