New Year’s Eve is a time for reveling, a time for putting all the sorrows and unpleasant happenings from the past twelve months all behind, a time for remembering all the nice moments from those same twelve months with sweet nostalgia or the well-familiar tickling feeling in the stomach and softness of the heart.

In the era of social media, sharing our favorite moments with people from all around the world has become an absolutely effortless activity. In the eve of New Year, a great number of global poker’s most popular personalities used Twitter to share moments from their final day of 2017 with their followers. Here is how some of these well-recognized poker players and influencers bid farewell to 2017 and rocked and rolled into 2018.

Daniel Negreanu, who is known for his frequent use of Twitter, attended Sunday’s NHL game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which saw the Vegas Golden Knights defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs after the former’s William Karlsson scored a hat trick. The Canadian poker pro said on his Twitter page that he had found himself on board of an emotional roller coaster as he was fan of both teams.

Negreanu was wearing a Knights Jersey and a Leafs hat on Sunday to show his support for both teams. He promised that he would throw his Leafs hat on the ice, if Karlsson scored the hat trick. The player did just that and not long after, Negreanu posted a video of him actually throwing his hat.

Fedor Holz, another favorite to poker fans from all around the world, was brief and somewhat mysterious in his New Year’s Eve post on Twitter. The player, who boasts a live poker bankroll of $26.7 million, wrote “2018: year of patience” on his page. We are yet to see what the new year has in store for the German poker pro and whether we will see him in some of the upcoming major high roller tournaments he has been performing so well in.

If there is a poker player who knows how to celebrate a happy occasion in a spectacular manner, that one would, without doubt, be Phil Hellmuth. The Poker Brat had a beastly good New Year’s Eve and he was generous to share an insight into his night with his fans. The player dressed up as the Beast from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and hopped into 2018 with his beauty, Katherine Sanborn, whom he has been married for 27 years.

It was on December 31 when Vanessa Selbst, poker’s winningest female player, announced her decision to retire from professional poker and take a different path in life. In a comprehensive post on her Facebook page, Selbst, who has won three WSOP gold bracelets and over $11 million in live tournament winnings, explained her reasons to abandon the game she has been so good in and explore new career opportunities. While we will all miss her on the felt, we are certain that she will reap just as much success in her new endeavors as she did during her years as a professional player.

Last but not least, we saw player and poker host Kara Scott preparing meals for her New Year’s feast. She later on posted a picture of her and her husband taken in the first minutes of 2018. And on Monday, Scott shared with her fans the most amazing news that she is expecting a child, uploading a cute baby bump photo.

What to Expect from First Days of 2018?

While poker players may have not recovered yet from New Year’s Eve festivities, a great number of them are probably heading to the Bahamas, where the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is set to take place for the first time in two years. The popular poker festival will run from January 6-14 and will feature a number of exciting events including the $10,300 Main Event and the $100,000 Super High Roller.

The latter tournament will actually be the one to kick off this year’s PCA and it will certainly attract some of poker’s most popular high rollers for three days of fun and quality poker action. The beautiful Atlantis Resort will once again play host to the Adventure.
