Billionaire Derek Stevens to debut first Circa Sports-branded facility at Golden Gate Casino on June 1; The D sportsbook launch coming next
Golden Gate Casino Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas is set to up its sports betting game with the opening of its own branded sportsbook. Owners of the casino received Thursday regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission to move forward with their plan for sports gambling expansion at the property.
Golden Gate Casino, The D Las Vegas, and Circa Resort & Casino, currently under development in Downtown Vegas, are all owned by billionaire businessman Derek Stevens and his brother, Greg, and are part of the Fremont Street Experience.
All three casinos are planned to operate sports betting facilities under the Circa Sports brand. At present, Golden Gate features a sports wagering kiosk operated by British bookmaker William Hill, while The D has a tiny sportsbook.
Earlier this year, Mr. Stevens said that, among other things, Circa will feature the biggest sportsbook in the city “with the biggest screen in sportsbook history.” First concrete was poured at the 18 Fremont Street site earlier this month to mark the first of many important construction milestones.
Circa will be the first casino resort to be built from the ground up in Downtown Vegas in more than three decades. The property is slated to welcome its first visitors in late 2020.
First Circa Sports Facility
The Nevada Gaming Commission gave the owners of Golden Gate unanimous approval to open a sportsbook at its gaming floor. Circa Sportsbook Director Matthew Metcalf told local media yesterday that the betting facility will be launched on June 1.
The first Circa Sports facility will be designed by Moser Architecture Studio, it also became clear. It will feature 18 TV screens, a LED board that will display betting odds as well as two betting kiosks.
Of the new sportsbook, Mr. Metcalf said yesterday that it would be a smaller one, but will be having character.
Mr. Stevens pointed out that the Circa Sports brand will offer traditional Las Vegas sportsbook experience but with a modern twist, with all the technological bells and whistles being present at the three future facilities. The sportsbook at the new Circa resort will be the flagship facility with its three stories.
The opening of the Golden Gate sports betting facility on June 1 will be accompanied by the roll-out of a mobile betting app on the very same day. Mr. Metcalf said that they expect bigger bets to be taken at the counter of the new facility than on the betting app.
Following yesterday’s regulatory approval, it also became known that The D will debut its own Circa Sports facility shortly after the one at Golden Gate has its ribbon cut.
