The 2015 Mid-States Poker Tour Maryland Live! Casino Main Event was completed mere hours ago with New York-based player Greg Himmelbrand as its champion. He took home the first-place prize of $72,910 after facing Justin Liberto in a tough heads-up play.
The event attracted a total of 270 players, of whom only 47 returned for the event’s final day. Furthermore, only 27 were to be paid a share of the prize pool.
The ten-handed final table was set in Level 20 of the game with Himmelbrand as the chip leader with 1,455,000, followed by MSPT Team Pro Blake Bohn with 1,100,000 and Billy Jacobini with 705,000.
Bryan Maxin was the first to go after he was busted by Jacobini in Level 21. He was paid $3,385 for his 10th place. Level 21 saw two more players go – Daniel Fisher and Trevor Savage. They received $5,208 and $7,812 of the entire prize pool.
Nick Bond was eliminated in 7th place by Justin Liberto shortly after Level 22 began. He was followed by Tim Bryan, who was busted by Himmelbrand himself. The two players took home $10,416 and $13,020, respectively.
By the end of Level 22, there were only five remaining players with Himmelbrand still holding the majority of chips (1,700,000). He was followed by Bohn with 1,517,000 and Liberto with 850,000.
Vinod Moorjani was the next to go after he could not make it against Jacobini. His 5th place secured him with $15,624 from the event.
Jacobini himself was eliminated by Bohn in Level 24 of the game. It took another level before the heads-up play was set. This happened in Level 25 when Bohn could not hold up against his opponents and was eliminated in 3rd place. He was paid $24,738 of the entire prize pool.
The heads-up play between Liberto and Himmelbrand started with the latter being the chip leader with 4,125,000.
The last hand occurred in Level 26 with Himmelbrand holding [As][Ah] against his opponent’s [Ks][3h]. The board ran out [2s][3d][5s][9d][Jh] and the name of the champion was announced.
Liberto was paid the amount of $42,966 for his runner-up finish. Himmelbrand, as mentioned above, was awarded $72,910 for winning the tournament. Now, his winnings from live tournaments amount to a little more than $950,000.
Himmelbrand is currently ranking 1,423rd in the all time money list and 806th in the United States money list. Furthermore he is taking 354th place in the GPI ranking.
