The appointment is indicative of RGT’s aim to “maintain a balance” between both industry and independent Board Trustees and to keep on benefiting from experience and knowledge acquired from all important sectors of the UK gambling industry.
Neil Goulden, Chairman of RGT, commented that the participation of industry representatives is important for the work of the Trust. Mr. Goulden pointed out that Mr. Glynn had been particularly committed to the Trust’s charitable objectives and that he believes Mr. Henderson will be just as committed. The RGT Chairman also noted that the new appointee will certainly contribute to the Trust’s main goal to minimize gambling-related risks.
Mr. Henderson stated that he is delighted to be appointed as member of the RGT board and is looking forward to taking part in its work. According to William Hill’s CEO, responsible gambling is an important area that requires to be paid special attention and to be constantly improved. In addition, Mr. Henderson said that he is pleased to be given the opportunity to combine his experience and knowledge with that of the other Board Trustees so as to effectively promote responsible gambling.
RGT is an independent UK-based charity, which is mainly funded by gambling industry donations. The Trust uses the donated money to fund various education, prevention, and treatment programs, as well as studies aimed at providing the country’s residents with more information about gambling and the gambling-related risks. RGT has repeatedly pointed out that its main goal is to prevent people from developing gambling addiction and helping those who show symptoms of gambling addiction cope with their problems.
Annually, the trust raises no less than £5 million from UK-based gambling operators. A national strategy, recommended by the Responsible Gambling Strategy Board and approved by the UK Gambling Commission, guides the funding priorities. It was published back in December 2012.
Apart from Mr. Henderson, Peter Brooks, President and Chief Operating Officer of Genting UK plc, Nick Harding, Chief Executive Officer of Praesepe plc, and Clive Hawkswood, Chief Executive Officer of the Remote Gambling Association, are the other representatives of the country’s gambling industry to be members of RGT’s Board of Trustees.
