
Overall gaming revenue amounted to $897.9 million compared to $852 million generated in April 2014.
The state gaming regulator pointed out that revenue from slot machines accounted for the greater portion of the 5.4% increase. There are a total of 151,401 units installed at Nevada-based casinos. Revenue from those amounted to $601.5 million in April, up 6.1% year-on-year.
As for table games, they generated a total of $287.9 million last month. Revenue from those increased 4.1% compared to the figures reported for the same month a year ago. Currently, there are as many as 5,414 table games offered at 163 locations across Nevada.
In April, blackjack and baccarat were the top performers among the table games featured at the state’s casinos. Revenue from the first amounted to $81.8 million, up almost 3% year-on-year. Revenue from the latter increased 5.6% to reach $95.5 million.
Unsurprisingly, Clark County generated the greater portion of Nevada’s April gaming revenue. The amount of $783.2 million was posted, up 5.5% year-on-year. Of those, $498.9 million were generated at casinos located on the Las Vegas Strip, known to be one of the world’s most popular gambling destinations. That represented a 7.8% increase as compared to the figures posted for April 2014. Revenue from downtown Las Vegas amounted to $49.6 million, up 12.6% year-on-year.
Revenue in Washoe County dropped 1.6% year-on-year to $57.4 million. South Lakes Tahoe casinos generated gaming revenue of $14.5 million in April, up almost 60% as compared to the amount of $9 million posted for the same month a year ago. Gambling venues in Elko County generated a total of $21.3 million, up 1.5%. The Carson Valley Area casinos reported a 6.2% increase in revenue to $8.5 million. Casinos in other parts of the state generated a total of $13 million in April, up 0.5% year-on-year.
In May, Nevada collected the amount of $53.4 million in taxes from gaming revenue generated at the state’s casinos in April. In comparison, a total of $47.9 million was collected in May 2014.
