The third 2015 WSOP bracelet was awarded to Nick Petrangelo a few hours ago. The Massachusetts-based player emerged victorious over the field of Event #4: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout to capture the first-place prize of $201,812.

The event attracted a total of 308 entries and a prize pool of $840,840 was created. Being a “Shootout” meant that it required players to outlast opponents in a number of single-table sessions. Day 1 of the event saw all 308 entries divided into either 7- or 8-handed tables. Play continued up until there were only 40 winners left. Day 2 saw them returning to compete at 4-handed tables. Once there were only 10 remaining players, the unofficial final table was set.

It took about 6 hours before the heads-up play was set and 2 more hours before the champion was determined. Petrangelo had to defeat poker pro Jason Les, in order to be awarded the WSOP bracelet and the prize money. At the very beginning of the heads-up play, both players were almost even in chips. Petrangelo quickly took the lead only for it to be reversed after a critical hand. However, he managed to slowly regain his lead until he was holding six time more chips than Les at some point.

The final hand occurred with Petrangelo holding [Ks][Jh] against his opponent’s [Qh][10d]. The board ran out [5d][5h][2h][6h][2d], which meant that Les would have to content himself with a runner-up finish and a consolation prize of $124,696.

And as mentioned above, Petrangelo received his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet as well as the amount of $201,812, his best cash from a WSOP event so far. Up to now, the player has cashed in 10 other WSOP events. The player has a total of $1,514,369 in live tournament earnings.

Earlier in 2015, the Massachusetts resident won $301,500, his biggest live cash so far, for finishing 6th in the PCA Paradise Island $24,000 + 1,000 #24 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Handed event. He also performed quite well at the EPT Season 11 Malta poker festival, held in April. There, he finished 4th in the €25,000 + 500 #5 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller for €205,900 ($217,998) and 6th in the €10,000 + 300 #53 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller for €139,000 ($152,167).

One-time WSOPC ring winner David Peters finished 3rd in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout to capture the amount of $91,575. He was followed by Jeffrey Griffiths, who scored his fourth WSOP cash of $67,788 for his 4th place in the event. Derek Bowers took 5th place to be paid $50,576. Norwegian-born player Andreas Hoivold finished 6th for $38,039.

Two-time Academy Award nominee James Woods was one of the big surprises at the event and the fact that he made it to the final table and finished 7th was even more surprising. In fact, Woods is not a stranger to poker as he has been playing in cash games and tournaments around Los Angeles for quite some time now. He scooped $28,832 for his 7th place.

Brian Lemke took 8th place. He missed the chance to win yet another WSOP bracelet, but he added $22,021 to his bankroll. The player was awarded his first WSOP piece of jewelry back in 2009, when he topped the field of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event.

Leo Wolpert was the one to finish 9th in this year’s Event #4. He took the amount of $16,951 of the entire prize pool.
