Yet another event of the 2015 WSOP was marked as completed, after UK player Alex Lindop won the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em for $531,037 and his first career gold bracelet.
The event attracted a huge field of 2,155 entries and a prize pool of $2,909,250 was created. The first 216 finishers got their share of the money and the payouts started from $2,967.
Lindop has cashed in as many as four WSOP events since 2011 and has collected about $550,000 in those. As for his overall career winnings, they amount to $653,747 after his latest victory.
Originally, the tournament was to be a three-day one but was extended into one additional day as there were four remaining players by the end of Day 3. The nine-handed final table featured two former bracelet winners – Jamie Gold, who won the 2006 WSOP Main Event for $12 million, and Haixia Zhang, who topped the field of last year’s Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship.
Yet, it was French player Aurelien Guiglini whom Lindop had to face in the final heads-up play, which lasted a little more than an hour. It started with the Englishman holding 3 times more chips than his opponent.
On Hand #167, the last one in play, the flop ran out [4h][5d][3h]. Guiglini bet 225,000 and his opponent called. The [3d] appeared on the turn and the Frenchman bet 475,000. Lindop called once again. The river showed [Qh] and Guiglini checked. Lindop moved all in and his opponent called. The English player tabled [4d][3c] for a full house and Guiglini showed [Qd][5s], which meant that he had to settle for a 2nd place in the tournament and the amount of $330,578, his best career WSOP cash.
And here are the rest of the players, who sat at the final table:
Yorane Kerignard from France took 3rd place for $229,787, his 6th WSOP cash. California-based Haixia Zhang finished 4th for a $165,492 portion of the prize pool. As mentioned above, the female poker pro won a gold bracelet this time last year.
Jamie Gold from Malibu, Calfiornia added $120,952 to his poker bankroll for finishing 5th in the event. He is a former Main Event champion. Luisfabio Fonseca Freitas from Brazil took 6th place to scoop $89,473.
Jason Herron from Adrian, Michigan finished 7th to collect $67,508, his first WSOP cash. Joshua Evans from Denton, Texas took 8th place, which paid $50,897. The player is a two-time Circuit gold ring winner.
Rounding out the final table, Rick Alvarado from Canada took $39,085 for finishing 9th in the event.
