Amar Anand Tops 2015 WSOP Main Event Day 3

Day 3 of this year’s WSOP $10,000 Main Event has been completed a few hours ago. After five levels of play, there are 661 remaining players who will return for Day 4 of the event. Amar Anand from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts finished the day as the chip leader, bagging up a total of 1,139,500 chips.

It is interesting to note that Anand is not a well-known name in the world of poker. In fact, his cash history shows that he has made it to the money only in one WPT500 event, held in July 2014. Back then, he scooped $750 for finishing 393rd in a $565 No-Limit Hold’em event with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. However, the player seems to be doing quite well this year, as he became the Main Event’s chip leader for a second consecutive day.

Anand is followed by Joseph McKeehen with 1,052,000 and Brian Hastings, who won two gold bracelets at this year’s edition of the Series, with 1,034,500.

Day 3 saw 1,796 players returning to try to make their way to the money. This year, the WSOP announced that the top 1,000 finishers would receive a share of the prize pool, which amounts to $60,348,000.

The bubble burst after the dinner break and Roy Daoud became the bubble boy. Although the player could not make it to the money, he received a seat into the 2016 WSOP Main Event. The WSOP traditionally awards the Main Event bubble boy a $10,000 entry for the next year’s tournament.

As mentioned above, Day 4 of the Main Event will see 661 players returning. And there will be five former Main Event champions among them. Jim Bechtel, who won the tournament in 1993, will start the day with 575,000 chips. Joe Hachem, who captured his title in 2005, will return with 414,500. Phil Hellmuth, who is the only player in the history of poker to have won both the WSOP and the WSOP Europe Main Events, will start Day 4 with 170,500.

Ryan Riess and Jonathan Duhamel are the other two Main Event winners that will be seen at the tables. Up to now, they have 143,500 and 53,000, respectively. Riess captured his title in 2013 and Duhamel won his back in 2010.

Day 4 start at 12 pm local time and five more levels will be played.
