video-poker-iconAces and Faces is a unique variation of video poker that is based on the game of Jacks or Better with a few changes concerning mostly the payouts.

The player still gets paid for receiving a hand equal or better than a pair of jacks. However, the player will qualify for a bigger payout when they manage to gather a combination of four of a hand that consists of four face cards.

What is specific here is the fact that even the name of the game refers to the fact that pairs of face cards or aces are considered as a winning combination. The cards from 2 to 10 cannot form a winning combination.

Also,  Aces and Faces is regarded as a variation of Jacks and Better, the payout in Aces and Faces for a four of a kind is higher in comparison to the payout granted in the original game.

Where Can Aces and Faces Be Found?

Aces and Faces is offered at a large number of land and web-based casinos. Some players actually find it hard to recognize the Aces and Faces machines in a brick-and-mortar casino, because the latter looks very much like the normal slot machines.

The video poker machines usually have pictures of cards on them, which is quite a distinctive feature that will help players find them in a land-based casino. When choosing a video poker machine, players also need to be aware of the fact that some machines will permit them to play only one hand at a time, while there are some machines that will allow them to play several hands at once. Such machines are also known under the names “power poker” machines or “multi-hand poker” machines.

The game of Aces and Faces can be easily found once the player manages to find the video poker machines in a casino. In order to access to the game, they are required to select video poker from the menu, and they will be given the opportunity to select an Aces and Faces game. Also, if a single and a multi-hand version is available, players will be offered a choice of the version they prefer.

Players also need to be aware of the fact that both multi-hand and single-hand versions are played in the same manner. Most casinos also offer both Aces and Faces and Jacks or Better, which it originates from. Still, there are some casinos, both land-based and web-based, that provide one or the other game, since they are both played in a similar manner.

Payouts

Players must remember that both minimum and maximum payouts are set by the casino. Here is a standard rate table listed below:

Playing Strategy

Aces and Faces is considered one of the easiest video poker games offered. After selecting the number of coins the player wants to wager, they are required to press on the “Deal” button. Then, the cards are dealt and the player needs to choose which cards they would like to hold.

Aces and Faces Video Poker is played with a standard deck that consists of 52 cards. After the initial wager is set by the player, the game continues. The bet is placed by clicking on the plus or minus buttons on the machine.

A total of five cards are dealt in the first hand, and the player is provided with the opportunity to decide how many cards they would like to hold in order to build the strongest hand possible. The remaining cards are discarded and replaced with new ones.

The rest of the gameplay is based on Jacks and Better. As indicated by the game’s name, the prizes are granted for combinations consisting of aces and face cards. There is also a higher prize when the player manages to get a combination of four of a kind in Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces. No wild cards are included in the game.

There is another specific feature of the game, which is important and makes it different from other poker games. Unlike typical poker games, Aces and Faces is played with only one player opposing the dealer (the machine).

When the cards are selected, the player needs to press the “Deal” button again, and if they have chosen to play a multi-hand video poker game, they different replacement cards are received in each hand. Once the player receives their new cards, their hand is scored and grant them the winnings, if any. The player’s winnings are paid according to the payout table that is usually displayed right next to the main game screen.

Card Combinations to Be Paid out

Three of a Kind

The hand consists of three cards of the same denomination

Four of a Kind

The combination means that the player has managed to gather four cards in any part of the deck that are numerically matched

The hand consists of five cards of any suit that are numerically consecutive

Flush

This combination is consistent of any cards that come from the same suit

Straight Flush

The Straight Flush hand consists of a Ten, a Jack, a Queen, a King and an Ace of any suit

This is a 5-card combination. Three of the cards must be of the same numerical denomination, and the other two – of any other numerical denomination

Royal Flush

The hand is consistent of a Ten, a Jack, a Queen, a Kind and an Ace all of the same suit

House Edge

The House Edge provided by the Aces and Faces video poker game varies according to the machine the game is provided by. Usually, the house advantage is quite small, as the game normally advertises a payout equal to at least 98%.

Of course, players need to be aware of the fact that such payout is granted in case all five coins are played. The payout is also theoretical over an infinite number of hands.
