Matt Glantz Once Again in the Middle of Poker-Related Controversy

Lifestyle

Matt Glantz is among those poker personalities who have never been afraid to speak their minds and share their opinion on what should be improved in one of the world’s most popular games and how this could be done.

However, it seems that he has found himself in the middle of a controversy once again after he voiced on Twitter his complaints about certain irregularities during this year’s edition of the World Series of Poker.

Last month, the popular poker pro commented that the WSOP “is losing its luster.” Similarly to other players, one of the things that Glantz complained about was the quality of the cards. This year, the WSOP chose Italian card manufacturer Modiano to provide the Series with decks. However, a number of people, Glantz included, said that they were too flimsy and easy to mark or damage.

In addition, the poker pro pointed out on his Twitter account that he was not particularly happy with the new structures of lower buy-in limit tournaments as well as the changes in media policy that resulted in the WSOP being the only to provide live updates from the 68 events that took place.

Glantz also said on Twitter that his opinion about this year’s edition of the Series mirrored the reactions of a great number of other players. A few days ago, he renewed his criticism towards the WSOP and the way it handled what is known to be the most celebrated festival in the world of poker.

Glantz addressed on Twitter WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel, suggesting the establishment of a Players’ Committee before each edition of the Series. Committee members would make sure that issues like those mentioned above would be properly taken care of before the start of the WSOP.

However, it seems that Mr. Effel did not take criticism very well as he banned Glantz and other indignant players from accessing his Twitter page. Yet, the block did not last long, as those were able access his account on the very next day.

Mr. Effel apologized for blocking those players and said that he is open to other people’s opinion on how the Series could be improved provided that comments are made “in good tone.” Only time will tell whether the recommendations concerning the WSOP and the way it is organized will be taken into account.

This year, Glantz cashed a total of $78,670 in 4 WSOP events. His career WSOP winnings amount to $2,579,283. As for the player’s overall live tournament earnings, they currently total $5,936,408.
