The latest GPI update showed female poker pro Joanne “JJ” Liu, originally from Taiwan but currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, overthrowing long-standing number 1 in the female ranking – Vanessa Selbst. Liu has collected a total of 1,781.06 points since the beginning of the year.

At present, she is 255th in the actual GPI leaderboard and 414th in the Player of the Year one with 965.55 points.

Liu has cashed in 14 events since the beginning of 2015. However, she cannot boast with significant achievements or at least not for the past seven months. Her largest cash this year amounts to $56,790. She received it for her runner-up finish in a $2,140 No-Limit Hold’em 7-Handed event at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. Liu also scooped $18,320 for finishing 10th in the WPT Rolling Thunder $3,500 Main Event.

This summer, the player cashed in two WSOP events, collecting $2,949 and $2,723 from two No-Limit Hold’em tournaments. Although she has not won a gold bracelet so far, Liu has as many as 31 WSOP in-the-money finishes. Her career earnings from the Series currently total $408,025.

Overall, Liu’s live tournament winnings amount to $2,906,650. She ranks 55th in the Nevada all time money list, 202nd in the US one, and 318th in the general one.

Liu captured her biggest live cash of $600,000 back in 2007, when she finished 2nd in the WPT Bay 101 $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship. Thus, it could be said that the poker pro is the closest a female player has ever been to a WPT title.
