It was ten years ago when poker pro Joe Hachem topped the field of the WSOP $10,000 Main Event, captured the amount of $7.5 million, and became the first Australian to ever win the world’s most celebrated poker event. Apart from his triumph back in 2005, the player also won the $15,400 Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic No-Limit Hold’em in 2006 to capture the amount of $2.2 million and emerged victorious in a number of other prestigious events.

Up to now, his live tournament earnings amount to $12,085,587 and the player could still be spotted at the WSOP tables.

Joe is not the only member of the Hachem family who entered the thrilling world of poker. After his brother’s major success, Tony Hachem soon followed his footsteps. The player currently has $776,626 in live tournament winnings and has captured those in a number of APPT, WSOP APAC, and other prestigious events. He was crowned the Australia-New Zealand Poker Tour Player of the Year in two consecutive years.

This weekend, Tony will appear in the Sydney Championships, Australia’s biggest tournament, which is to be held at The Star casino in Sydney. Local media reported that Joe would attend the championship in order to lend his support for his brother. The siblings rarely miss each other’s tournament appearances.

More than 500 people are expected to enter the Sydney Championships, hoping to scoop a share of the prize pool, which amounts to more than half a million Australian dollars. Commenting on the event, Tony said that The Star definitely knows how to organize an event, which is expected to attract some of world’s best poker players.

When asked about his opinion about poker in general, the player explained that he does not consider the game gambling. He said that it is rather a game of skill, with people of “the same level” competing against each other. Tony admitted that there is an element of luck, but players do not rely solely on it when making their decisions throughout the game.

The Hachem brothers also revealed that they have invested the money they have won in property. They celebrated the 10th anniversary of Joe’s WSOP triumph together with family and friends.
