Casino payment options in Sweden depend on the operator’s Swedish licence, its cashier and the player’s bank or payment provider. A brand’s popularity does not guarantee that it supports a particular deposit or withdrawal.

Swedish Licensing and Regulation

The Swedish Gambling Act took effect on 1 January 2019 and opened commercial online gambling and betting to licensed competition. The regulator’s English translation of the Act also records the repeal of the earlier Lotteries Act and Casinos Act. This historical commencement information should not be confused with later amendments.

Credit Cards and Invoice Payments

Sweden’s expanded gambling credit ban took effect on 1 May 2026. Licensees and their agents must not allow or help finance gambling with credit and must take appropriate preventive measures.

The regulator’s credit-ban guidance includes credit cards, invoice payments and other borrowed funds. It says online operators must block credit cards and address credit-card funding through e-wallets. Earlier recommendations here to use credit cards or pay a gambling invoice later are therefore no longer appropriate.

Our general credit-card guide is not a recommendation to use credit for Swedish gambling. A debit card and a credit card may carry the same payment-network logo but use different funding sources.

Comparing Payment Methods

Debit Cards

For a Visa card or another debit product, check whether the casino and issuing bank support the transaction. Deposit acceptance does not automatically mean that withdrawals can return to the same card. Confirm the permitted withdrawal route before depositing.

Older references to Visa Electron and Maestro should not be treated as proof of current availability. Check the exact card product with its issuer instead of following a generic set of instructions for an old brand.

Bank Payments and Trustly

A bank transfer can have different processing times from an instant bank-payment service. Confirm fees, the intended recipient and the stated processing time with the provider. A universal three-to-five-day estimate is not reliable for every transfer.

Trustly supports deposits and withdrawals at participating merchants. Its own help page explains that the merchant decides which services are available and when a withdrawal request is sent. The former statement here that Trustly cannot be used for withdrawals was incorrect.

If you bank with Nordea, check the options supported by your bank and the licensed operator. Do not assume a payment is anonymous, fee-free or instant simply because a familiar bank appears in the cashier.

Wallets and Prepaid Methods
