Coming back to the Manila Megastack 3 PHP10,000 Main Event, it took two starting flights and a final day for the winner to be determined. Rivera started Day 2 third in chips but quickly managed to catch up and take the lead by the time the final table was set.
During the final table play, the soon-to-be-champion eliminated two of his opponents. And at one point, he accumulated a total of 7.4 million chips.
Teofisto Pelayo from the Philippines was the first to leave the final table. He was eliminated in 10th place by Korean Seung Soo Jeon, who was the Day 1A chip leader. Pelayo took home PHP60,300.
Yi Won Lee, the other Korean at the table, was the next to go. He was busted by Felix Michel Weis from Luxembourg to receive PHP74,200 for his efforts.
Seung Soo Jeon was then eliminated in 8th place by Richard Marquez from the Philippines. Jeon’s share of the prize pool amounted to PHP91,132. It did not take long before Marquez himself left the final table after he could not hold up against Rivera. His 7th place in the event secured him with a payout of PHP108,000.
Marquez’s fellow countryman Martin Corpuz was then defeated by Day 1B chip leader Shih Chieh Su from Taiwan to take 6th place and scoop PHP139,000 of the prize pool. Jester Intia, yet another local player, finished 5th in the event after he could not stand a chance against Michael Kim Enriquez. The player collected PHP170,000.
Enriquez was the next to leave. His payout amounted to PHP232,000. The remaining three players – Rivera, Weis, and Su – decided to strike a three-way deal for the remaining cash. Su was eliminated in 3rd place by Weis and took home PHP490,000.
The heads-up between Rivera and Weis started with the latter holding the majority of chips. On what turned out to be the last hand of the day and the event as a whole, the two opponents went all in pre-flop. Rivera tabled [As][Qh] and Weis showed [Ad][5d]. Nothing that could help Weis improve against his opponent appeared on the table. Thus, the Luxembourg-born player had to content himself with the runner-up finish and the amount of PHP474,000.
