The gambling legislation procedure in Mexico has gone through lots of issues and setbacks recently. The local regulators were not willing to make compromises, which resulted in long and fruitless discussions.
Luckily, the members of the National Action Party and the Party of the Democratic Revolution, have finally settled down around the idea of legalizing the online gambling activities in the country. What is more, they even figured out the smallest details, concerning the approaching gambling legislation procedure, which can be considered as a giant step towards developing the local gambling sector and making it competitive to the other countries in North America.
According to the initial plan, the proposal, containing the details about the upcoming legislation, was supposed to be submitted to the Parliament a month and a half ago. The amenities, that were intended to be introduced to the Parliament members, were said to be the start of a new era in the Mexican gambling industry. They were about to pinpoint the strong and the weak sides as well as the changes that need to be implemented for both – online gambling activities as well as those that take place in land-based venues. In addition, the authorities have carefully scrutinized the money laundering cases and proposed new regulations, aimed at limiting the illegal schemes.
According to a reputable Mexican media, the new gambling rules and regulations will contain a clause about the age at which a player is allowed to take part in betting activities. Most probably, the law will forbid people under 21 years of age to participate in any games that contain an element of gambling.
The laws, intended to limit money laundering will directly affect the so called “mini casinos”, that have gained considerable popularity recently. The limitations will be imposed because basically, these “casinos” are not authorized to provide the customers with gambling services.
Ricardo Mejia Berdeja, the previous chairman of the Commission in charge of solving issues, concerning casinos and gambling, revealed exciting news during a short interview. He said that yesterday, the authorities talked over all the details about the legislation proposal and even gave a brief description of the amenities proposed.
Apart from those, mentioned above, the changes will also have an impact on the licensing and on the regulated gambling market in general. Plus, Berdeja said that a new Advisory Council will be formed and key figures, responsible for the country’s affairs will be in charge of solving baffling gambling issues.
Fernando Zarate Salgado, the President of the Commission of Gaming, added that the new laws will definitely have a positive impact on the Mexican gambling industry.
Meanwhile, Brazil has legalised the gambling activities and became an appealing destination for amateurs and professional players. Apparently, the success the country had with the gambling matters, made the Mexican authorities accelerate the gambling legislation procedure.
Players were also delighted to know the good news and some Mexican poker players have even expressed their hopes that Mexico will become an important gambling hub that will play host to prestigious tournaments.
