
The event attracted a field of 256 hopefuls and a prize pool of €744,960 was generated. The first 27 finishers were paid, with payouts starting from €6,035. As mentioned above, the €3,250 No-Limit Hold’em was a three-day tournament. Day 3, its last one, saw the nine finalists returning to play the final table.
Play started with Mario Lopez as the chip leader. The player had a total of 892,000 in chips. The eventual champion was second in chips at the beginning of the day. Play resumed from Level 21.
And it was in fact Lopez whom Xanthopoulos faced heads-up. The two-handed match began in Level 27 and it took the Greek player one level to defeat his Argentinian opponent. On what turned out to be the last hand in play, Lopez shoved all in with [5h][5s]. Xanthopoulos called and tabled [9d][Ah]. The board ran out [Ad][9h][8h][8c][3h], securing the Greek with top two pair and the gold bracelet. As for Lopez, he collected a consolation prize of €112,785.
And here are the rest of the finalists and their respective payouts:
Thierry Gogniat from France finished 3rd in the tournament to scoop €81,500. Canadian Sam Chartier took 4th place for a payout of €59,970. Farid Jattin from the United States received €44,920 for finishing 5th in the event. Alex Rocha, the other American at the final table, took 6th place for €34,270.
One-time gold bracelet winner Fabrice Soulier from France finished 7th to scoop €26,520. Soulier won his piece of WSOP jewelry in 2011 when he topped the field of the 42nd Annual WSOP $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship.
Artan Dedusha from the United Kingdom finished 8th in the €3,250 No-Limit Hold’em and was paid €20,860 for his efforts. Sergi Reixach, yet another British player at the table, took 9th place for €16,685.
With Event #6 being marked as completed, there are four more gold bracelets up for grabs at this year’s WSOP Europe. The poker festival is running through October 24 and the €10,450 Main Event, which is to kick off tomorrow, October 18, certainly is the most highly anticipated event at the European edition of the Series.
