With the WSOP Europe being completed on October 24 and the WSOP $10,000 Main Event being the only gold bracelet event left to be concluded this year, the name of the 2015 GPI WSOP Player of the Year has become clear. Poker pro Mike Gorodinsky managed to collect more points than anyone else throughout this year’s editions of both the WSOP and the WSOP Europe.
He has accumulated a total of 2251.81 points since the end of May when the Series officially kicked off. The player is followed by Jonathan Duhamel, who most recently won the WSOP Europe €25,600 High Roller, with 2174.64 points and 2015 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Kevin MacPhee with 2168.98 points.
Earlier this year, the WSOP and the Global Poker Index announced that the latter was to power, sponsor, and tabulate the annual WSOP Player of the Year ranking. The player with the most points collected was to be named Player of the Year. Points were earned based on the events’ type, their entry fees, and the place a given player has taken.
Gorodinsky will be awarded a special trophy for managing to accumulate the most points in this year’s Series events. He will receive it during the WSOP Main Event Final Table festivities, scheduled to take place early in November.
The player collected his points for cashing out in seven WSOP events this summer and a WSOP Europe one a few days ago. He topped the field of the $50,000 Players Championship back in July to collect his second-ever gold bracelet and the amount of $1,270,086, his best live cash so far.
During the 46th Annual WSOP, the Russian-born poker pro, now residing in the US, also took 2nd place in the $10,000 Seven-Card Razz Championship for $167,517, and a 3rd place in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event for $246,867.
As mentioned above, he had one in-the-money finish during the 2015 WSOP Europe. The player took 42nd place in the €1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo event for a payout of €2,375.
Gorodinsky won his first WSOP gold piece back in 2013. The player emerged victorious in the $2,500 Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo event to capture the prestigious non-monetary prize and the amount of $216,988.
Currently, his live tournament winnings amount to $2,563,570. He is ranking 185th in the GPI leaderboard and 87th in the GPI Player of the Year one.
