The WPT National China Main Event attracted a massive field of 881 players who created a prize pool of ¥8.8 million ($1.39 million). The top 108 finishers received a portion of the prize pool, with payouts starting from ¥15,000. After five days of play, the number of hopefuls contending to be crowned the WPT National China Champion was brought down to only six. Each of the players at the six-handed final table was guaranteed a minimum payout of ¥311,000 ($49,069).
The final table was played yesterday, November 2. It started with Weijie Huang from Fujian, China as the chip leader. The player had a total of 5,345,000 in chips. Chengxing Wang from Zejiang, China was second with 3,300,000. Yu Liu was third with a stack of 3,255,000 in chips. Wenlong Jin from Shanghai was fourth in chips with a total of 3,230,000. The eventual champion, who currently resides in Beijing, was fifth in chips at the beginning of the final table with 1,735,0000. Xin Jin from Shandong, China was the sixth player sitting at the table. He was the short stack with only 695,000 in chips.
Although Sun started the day with a much smaller stack than his opponents, the player managed to catch up and eventually emerged victorious to collect the first-place prize of ¥1.5 million, the Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard, and the tournament trophy.
WPT National will next travel to Georgia for a Europe-bet.com WPT National Georgia Main Event running from November 6 to November 9. Buy-in for the prestigious tournament amounts to $1,000 and entries will have the chance to win a portion of the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. Satellite events and the WPT Georgia Poker Championship have already commenced at the Europe-Bet Poker Room in Tbilisi.
