Yet another event on the schedule of the 2015/16 WSOP Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe was marked as completed. Charles “Woody” Moore from Las Vegas topped the field of Event #8: $580 No-Limit Hold’em to scoop the amount of $28,252 of the entire prize pool and his third-ever gold ring.
The two-day $580 buy-in tournament attracted a total of 226 entries who created a prize pool of $113,000. The top 24 finishers were paid a share of the prize pool, with payouts starting from $1,043. The nine-handed final table was reached late on Day 1. And Day 2 of the event saw only eight hopefuls return to continue final table play and eventually determine the big winner.
The tournament’s final day started with Moore as the chip leader. The player had a total of 793,000 in chips. And he had some really tough opponents. Here it is important to note that Moore was not the only former gold ring winner at the final table. He had to face Alex Masek, who holds eight gold pieces – more than any other player in the history of the Circuit series, and four-time gold ring winner Scott Stewart.
In fact, it was Masek whom Moore had to play against in the heads-up match. Play started with the eventual winner holding five times more chips than his prominent opponent. Despite his experience and his eight Circuit titles, Masek could not hold up against Moore and had to content with the runner-up finish and the consolation prize of $17,461.
When asked about his heads-up opponent, Moore told interviewers that he is a solid player and one of his all-time favorites. The winner also noted that next he plans to take part in the Planet Hollywood series in Las Vegas and the Bike series in Los Angeles in order to accumulate enough points to win a seat into next year’s Global Casino Championship.
And here are the rest of the players at the final table:
Raymond Marchi from Eureka, California took 3rd place for $12,708. Doug Englekirk from Zephyr Cove, Nevada finished 4th to collect a payout of $9,398. Glenn Miller from Mukilteo, Washington was paid $7,059 for his 5th place in the event.
David Forster from Alameda, California finished 6th for a payout of $5,384. Four time gold ring winner Scott Steward took 7th place to receive $4,170 of the entire prize pool. It is interesting to note that the player has won his four gold pieces within the span of the past twelve months.
Robert Donahue from Zephyr Cove, Nevada was paid $3,277 for finishing 8th in the event. And David Triggs from Temecula, California took 9th place for the amount of $2,614.
