With only a month and a half left before the end of 2015, there is one big question that excites poker fans – who will be this year’s GPI Player of the Year. And it seems that the current number 1 in the ranking has every chance to add the prestigious recognition to his already impressive set of poker achievements.
After the weekly update of the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard, American poker pro Byron Kaverman can be seen ranking 1st for a second consecutive week with a total of 4,736.90 points. It is also interesting to note that the prominent player has been topping the general GPI ranking for seven consecutive weeks now. He has accumulated 4,407.20 GPI points since the beginning of 2015.
Kaverman has had his best year since the beginning of his poker career. The player won a number of prestigious tournaments, some of which high roller ones. What is more, he collected his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet, probably the most coveted non-monetary prize in the exciting world of poker.
Kaverman, who was born in Ohio but currently resides in California, started his winning streak in March, when he topped the fields of two Aria High Roller events in two consecutive days. First, he won the Aria High Roller VI for $282,948 and then he collected $243,240 for winning the Aria High Roller VII on the very next day.
Next came his win at the 46th Annual WSOP poker festival. The player bested the field of the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed Championship. Apart from the shining gold piece, he also added $657,351 to his poker bankroll.
In October, Kaverman emerged victorious in yet another high roller event. He won the EPT Season 12 Malta €10,300 No-Limit High Roller, scooping a payout of €430,800 for his triumph.
Overall, the player has collected a total of $6,757,855 since the beginning of his poker career. He has cashed in 77 different events and his first in-the-money finish was during the 2008 WSOP. Kaverman captured his best live cash of $727,860 in 2014, when he finished runner-up to Keven Stammen in the $15,400 WPT World Championship. Apart from his success at the tables of WSOP, EPT, and Aria tournaments, the player also won a PCA event back in 2011.
