The Mid-States Poker Tour Golden Gates Casino $1,100 Main Event was concluded a few hours ago. Phanora Prom emerged victorious over his opponents to collect a first-place prize of $123,180.
The event featured three starting flights and an additional day of play. It attracted a field of 510 entries who generated a prize pool of $494,700. Day 2, the event’s final one, saw 87 players returning to play down to the ten-handed final table and a winner. And it took about 13 hours of play for the name of the champion to become clear.
The ten-handed final table was reached in Level 29 and started with Don Angstead as the chip leader. The player had a total of 2,500,000 in chips. He was followed by Dave Kohnke with 2,100,000, and Ben Keeline and Prom himself, who had 2,000,000 each.
The first elimination came in Level 30, when George Clark could not stand a chance against Michael Sanders. Clark’s 10th place in the tournament secured him with a payout of $6,431. One level later, Corey Zedo was busted in 9th place by Keeline. Zedo received the amount of $9,839 for his efforts.
The next elimination occurred in Level 32. Ross Reichert had to leave the final table in 8th place after he could not hold up against Prom. Reichert collected a total of $14,098 of the entire prize pool. Shortly after, Kohnke also hit the rail. He secured a payout of $18,056 for his 7th place in the Main Event.
Sanders was the next to go. He was paid $22,755 for finishing 6th. Keeline was eliminated on the very next hand. The player fell victim to the soon-to-be champion. He collected $27,730 for his 5th place. Soon after, Angstead, too, could not hold up against Prom and was eliminated in 4th place for $35,370. Aaron Thomas, too, was busted by the eventual winner. His 3rd place in the tournament secured him with a payout of $44,523.
Heads-up play between Sammy Aweida and Prom started with the latter holding six times more chips than his opponent. And it took only two hands for the name of the champion to be announced. On what turned out to be the last hand in play, Aweida shoved all in with [Ad][8s] and Prom called with [Ac][6d]. The board ran out [6c][As][2s][Kd][9h] and Aweida was eliminated in 2nd place to scoop $69,258.
