Ring event number eight at the 2015/16 WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood was completed late on Wednesday with Texas resident Brian Shugart besting a field of 217 opponents to emerge victorious and collect the first-place prize of $27,253 and his career first WSOP Circuit gold ring. In fact, this was Shugart’s first WSOP-related cash.
The $580 No-Limit Hold’em kicked off on November 17 and it took two days of play for a champion to be determined. The event attracted a total of 218 entries. As many as 24 of those received a share of the prize pool, which amounted to $109,000. The minimum payouts were worth $1,006.
Day 1 of the event was completed with nine remaining players who represented the final table. Day 2 started with Jon Lactaoen as the chip leader, holding 664,000 in chips. Shugart was fourth in the chips at the beginning of nine-handed play with 256,000. Dan Sindelar, who is known for being one of the 2014 November Niners, was also still in contention. He was fifth in chips with 218,000.
Eventually, Shugart and Lactaoen were the only two survivors at the final table. However, the Hawaii-based player could not hold up against Shugart’s pocket sevens and had to settle for a 2nd place in the event and the amount of $16,843.
Anthus Williams from Salt Lake City, Utah finished 3rd for a payout of $12,258. Frank Duke from Swansea, Illinois took 4th place in the event to collect the amount of $9,066. Benjamin Wilkins from Anchorage, Alaska received $6,809 for his 5th place.
Dan Sindelar from Las Vegas, Nevada finished 6th to scoop $5,194 for finishing 6th. As mentioned above, the player was among the 2014 November Niners. He took 7th place in the 2014 WSOP Main Event for a payout of $1,235,862.
Russell Campanella from Rochester, New York finished 7th in the $580 No-Limit Hold’em for $4,022. Timothy Haselbarth from Perkasie, Pennsylvania was paid $3,161 for taking 8th place in last night’s event. Rounding out the official final table, Robert Cote from Cypress, Texas finished 9th to collect the amount of $2,521.
With Event #8 being completed, there are six more gold ring events on the 2015/16 WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood schedule. The four-day $1,675 Main Event is probably the most highly anticipated among those. It is slated to kick off on Friday, November 20.
