Events & Reports

The Louisiana State Police released information about the financial performance of the state’s fifteen riverboat casinos, Harrah’s New Orleans land-based casino, and four racetrack slots in October. Last month, revenue at Louisiana’s gambling venues amounted to $215.7 million, up 10.9% as compared to the figures posted for the same month a year ago.

Gaming revenue from New Orleans’ facilities amounted to $52.2 million in October, down 0.3% from the $52.3 million reported for October 2014. The New Orleans casino market is represented by three riverboats – Amelia Belle, Boomtown, and Treasure Chest, as well as Harrah’s New Orleans land-based casino, and the slots at Fair Grounds Race Course.

The slight drop in New Orleans’ casino revenue was attributed to the decreases posted by Harrah’s and Fair Grounds Race Course. The land-based casino generated $26.5 million last month, down 3.1% year-on-year. It said that the drop in revenue was mainly due to the smoking ban introduced by New Orleans officials earlier this year. As for the racino, it posted revenue of $3.3 million, down 9.9% year-on-year.

Baton Rouge’s casino revenue totaled $24.6 million in October, reflecting a 13% increase from the $21.7 million reported for the same month a year ago. The casino market there is represented by three riverboat casinos.

Shreveport-Bossier City casino turnover amounted to $59.8 million in October, up 2.9% year-on-year. The amount of $58.1 million was generated for the same month a year ago. The Shreveport-Bossier City market, which is currently the second most profitable one in the state, is represented by six riverboat casinos and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack.

Casino revenue in the Lake Charles area grew 31% year-on-year to reach $72.5 million last month. Here it is important to note that there were two riverboat casinos in Lake Charles this time last year, as its newest gambling venue – Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, was launched in December 2014. Apart from the three riverboat casinos, the market was also represented by Delta Downs Racetrack Casino and Hotel this October.

Last but not least, revenue in Opelousas totaled $6.7 million, down 5.1% from the $7 million reported for October 2014. The city’s casino market is represented by the slots at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino.
