UK-based poker player Kuljinder Sidhu entered top 300 of the GPI leaderboard for the very first time in his career after the traditional weekly update. But first things first. The Wednesday update of the prestigious ranking shows Byron Kaverman at its top with 4,415.13 points. The player seems to be quite comfortable there as he has been maintaining his lead for eight straight weeks now.
Kaverman is followed by Jason Mercier with 4,263.66 points, Anthony Zinno with 4,006.85 points, and Nicholas Petrangelo with 3,816.52 points. Steve O’Dwyer re-entered top 10 of the leaderboard this week. Now, the player ranks 5th with 3,811.83 points.
Sidhu’s entrance in GPI’s top 300 could mainly be attributed to his recent triumph at Holland Casino. The player bested the field of the 2015 Master Classics of Poker €10,250 High Roller Re-entry to collect the first-place prize of €161,172 and 386.12 GPI points.
This year has been the most profitable one for the player since the beginning of his poker career. Sidhu was seen at the tables of some of the most prestigious poker events that took place around Europe and cashed in a number of those. His best achievement, however, was his second-place finish in the EPT Season 12 Barcelona €10,300 High Roller 8-Max event.
Sidhu was just that close to emerging victorious in the event but could not make it against Mustapha Kanit. Eventually, Sidhu had to settle for the runner-up finish, the amount of €640,000, his biggest live cash so far, and a total of 573.33 points.
The player has collected 1,838.56 GPI points since the beginning of the year and now ranks 232nd in the GPI leaderboard. As for his GPI Player of the Year rank, he is currently 187th with 1,770,45 points collected over the course of the past eleven and a half months.
Overall, Sidhu has cashed in a total of 40 different events since the beginning of his career. He collected his first tournament cash in 2008 during the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour’s stop in Manchester. The player’s total live tournament winnings currently amount to $1,245,094 and he ranks 77th in England’s all-time money list.
Sidhu was not the only player to enter GPI’s top 300 for the very first time in his career after this weeks update of the ranking. Kane Lai also joined the elite group of poker players after he won the HPT Ameristar $1,650 Main Event for $150,593. Lai is currently ranking 247th in the GPI leaderboard with a total of 1,810.66 points.
