Maryland Live! Casino Hosts Minority Outreach Fair

Hanover-based Maryland Live! Casino hosted on Wednesday the semi-annual Minority Outreach Fair, at which 650 registrants representing women-, minority-, and veteran-led businesses were given the chance to meet a number of prime companies interested in working with the above-mentioned entities.

The event was organized by Maryland Live! Casino owner – The Cordish Companies, together with the Maryland Washington Minority Companies Association. Similar events have been held over the past several years and have gathered together owners of prime entities, with Maryland gambling venues and government agencies being among those, and women-lead, small, and minority businesses.

As already mentioned, the latest Minority Outreach Fair was attended by 650 minority representatives. What is more, about 45 prime companies took part, with Casino at Ocean Downs, Hollywood Casino, Rocky Gap Casino & Resort being among the prominent attendees. Representatives for the Maryland Department of Human Resources and the state Lottery and Gaming Control Agency were also present.

Commenting on the latest minority outreach event, Wayne Frazier, President of the Maryland Washington Minority Companies Association, said that they are proud of their long partnership with The Cordish Companies, which have been providing minority groups with business opportunities that no other casino or private company has ever done in Maryland. Mr. Frazier also praised Maryland Live! Casino and its owner for their creativity and inclusiveness of minority- and women-led businesses.

Cordish Companies COO Zed Smith told media that they have long been committed to being the leader in providing minority-, women-, and veteran-led businesses with numerous economic opportunities. Mr. Smith added that their goal is not only to offer direct opportunities to their businesses but also to contribute to the community’s strengthening. The executive pointed outed that The Cordish Companies are looking forward to expand their connections with minority-, women-, and veteran-owned companies and that they hope they will be able to hold more such outreach events in future.

According to media reports, as of December 2015, more than 3,000 minority businesses and prime companies have connected their operations through the semi-annual outreach fairs held at Maryland Live! Casino. In other words, about 30% of the registered minority-led businesses have found partners and have benefited considerably from attending the events.
