Poker professionals Sorel Mizzi and Brian Rast will face each other later this month in a special fundraising event for REG or Raising for Effective Giving, a Swiss charity organization, known to be managed and supported by prominent poker players.

However, it is important to note that Mizzi and Rast will not duel on the felt but on a boxing ring. The match is slated to take place on December 30 at the Syndicate MMA Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the event are already on sale and are $20 for general admission and $80 for VIP admission. All ticket proceeds will be donated to REG.

The two players, who are currently among the most accomplished ones in the world of poker, will be boxing for as many as four two-minute rounds. The whole event is scheduled to take place from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm PST.

Mizzi is a Canadian poker pro with live tournament winnings of more than $11 million. The player has multiple in-the-money finishes in some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. And he has topped the fields of quite a few of those.

As for Rast, he was born in the United States and currently resides there. The player’s live tournament earnings amount to more than $16.3 million. Most recently, he topped the field of the inaugural $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl for a first-place prize of $7.5 million. The player can also boast of two WSOP gold bracelets. Those he won over the span of the 2011 edition of the Series. As of now, Rast has cashed in 53 different events, winning a fairly large number of those.

It is important to note that the boxing match is not the result from any animosity between the two poker players. Yet, taunting has already started on social media, with both of them posting witty comments on their Twitter pages.

As mentioned above, Mizzi and Rast will be fighting for a good cause. All the money generated from the tickets sale will be donated to REG. According to the organization’s official website, the charity is primarily focused on finding the most effective ways to reduce suffering around the world by relying mainly on rational decision-making and science. Poker players Liv Boeree, Igor Kurganov, and Philipp Gruissem are among the members of REG’s Board.
