The 2016 Aussie Millions Championship kicked off on January 13 at Crown Melbourne and three events on its schedule have already been completed. A few hours ago, Nam Le bested the field of Event #3: $1,150 Shot Clock Shootout to collect A$30,215 in prize money and an exclusive LK Boutique winner ring.

The two-day event attracted a field of 126 entries who generated a prize pool of A$129,150. Payouts were distributed to the top 14 finishers, with lowest ones worth A$2,580. Day 2 saw the 14 winners of their respective shootout tables return to play down to a winner.

All survivors started the day with 10,000 in chips. And the eight-handed final table was reached in Level 3 with Le as the chip leader. He had a total of 43,175 in chips at the beginning of eight-handed action.

American Chance Kornuth was the first to leave the final table. The player was eliminated by Le and collected A$4,520 for his 8th place in the tournament. Henrik Tollefsen from Norway was the next to hit the rail. His payout amounted to A$5,165.

Australian Simon Thwaites was then eliminated in 6th place by fellow countryman Adam Jarvis. The player scooped A$5,810 of the entire prize pool. Several hands later, German poker pro Dietrich Fast could not hold up against Le and left the final table with a payout of A$8,400 for his 5th place.

Jarvis was the next to go. His 4th place in the tournament secured him with the amount of A$11,625. The three remaining players then agreed to a deal. Nam Le was to collect A$27,215, Geoffrey Mooney was to take home A$24,524, and Roope Salminen was to receive A$19,520. The winner was also to scoop A$3,000 and the LK Boutique winner ring.

Salminen was the next to go after he could not hold up against Mooney. The Finn’s elimination set the all-Australian heads-up match. And it took about an hour for the name of the champion to become clear. On what turned out to be the last hand in play, the board ran out [9s][4c][8d] to see Mooney bet 3,000. Le called and the [4s] appeared on the turn. Mooney bet 6,000 and Le raised to 15,000. Mooney then moved all in and his opponent called instantly.

Mooney tabled [Js][Jc] against Le’s [8c][8h]. The [Ks] fell on the river and secured Le with the title, the first-place prize of A$$30,215, and the LK Boutique winner ring.
