Less than a week after he topped the field of the $580 No-Limit Hold’em Re-entry event at Palm Beach Kennel Club, Spencer Champlin from Scarborough, Maine collected his second career WSOP Circuit gold ring. Last night, the player emerged victorious in Event #9: $1,125 No-Limit Hold’em, part of the 2015/16 WSOP Circuit’s Florida stop, to scoop $45,090 and the coveted gold piece, of course.
The two-day event attracted a field of 167 players and those generated a prize pool of $167,000. The top 18 finishers received a share of the money, with lowest payouts worth $2,239.
The event’s nine-handed final table was set late on Day 1 and the nine finalists returned for Day 2 to determine the eventual champion. The tournament’s final day started with Chad Eveslage as the chip leader with a total of 644,000. And Champlin’s road to victory was quite challenging as the final table featured four-time gold ring winner and one-time gold bracelet winner Phillip Hui and one-time gold ring winners Tristan Wade and Ting Ho.
Despite the tough opponents he had to face, the eventual winner steadily built up his stack until he emerged victorious. Champlin played heads-up against Andrew Blake from Delray Beach, Florida. His runner-up had to settle for the amount of $27,866.
Start-of-the-day chip leader Chad Eveslage from Ramsey, Indiana took 3rd place to collect $20,058. Ian Ohara from Boca Raton, Florida finished 4th for a payout of $14,701. Phillip Hui from San Antonio, Texas, who, as mentioned above, has won four gold rings, took 5th place in last night’s tournament to scoop $10,965.
Tristan Wade from Boynton Beach, Florida was paid $8,322 for his 6th place in the event. Andrew Touchette from Coconut Creek, Florida finished 7th for $6,423. Ting Ho from Las Vegas, Nevada received $5,038 for her 8th place in the event. Rounding out the nine-handed final table, Davis Adams from Tallahassee, Florida took 9th place for a payout of $4,018.
Including last night’s victory, Champlin’s WSOP Circuit earnings now amount to $181,128. The player has collected those in as many as 6 events. He has also previously cashed in a WSOP event, collecting the amount of $2,968.
With Event #9 being completed at Palm Beach Kennel Club, there are three more gold rings up for grabs. Of all three remaining events on the schedule, the $1,675 Main Event is indisputably the most exciting one. It kicked off on Friday, February 12, and will be running through February 15.
