Intertops has been an industry innovator in many aspects. For instance, it was 20 years ago when the gambling company accepted the first-ever online bet. During the LAC, Casino News Daily stopped by at the brand’s booth and had the chance to talk briefly to Paolo, one of its Affiliate Managers. Paolo told us more about Intertops’ online business and how it all started back in 1996.
Could you, please, introduce yourself?
My name is Paolo, I’m an Affiliate Manager at Intertops.
How long have been working for Intertops?
Almost 9 years now.
Intertops celebrates its 20th anniversary since it launched its online gambling website. Can you tell us how did it all start?
In very short words, the company was founded in 1983 and it started its online business exactly 20 years ago. It accepted the first online bet worldwide, which was placed by a Finn who bet $50 on a Premier League match.
And can you tell us a little more about the brand itself, your target markets?
So, Intertops offers players a sportsbook, two casinos – one is RTG-powered and the other is powered by WGS, and a poker room. Our target markets are English and German-speaking countries (Austria, Switzerland, and Germany).
You’ve certainly been at the LAC before. In what ways events like this conference, as well as the ones and Berlin and Amsterdam, help your business?
In the first place, it gives you the chance to showcase your brands, to show affiliates that you are here. In the second place, you can meet a lot of new affiliates, start doing business with them. It is also good to see existing affiliates, to meet them, to talk about how you can get more exposure on their sites, about upcoming projects on technical perspective.
Events like these can help us see how our marketing tools are working.
One final question. Where do you see the online gambling industry in five years from now?
From a legal perspective, I think it is very hard to predict how the legalization and regulation of online gambling will go ahead in different markets. But the industry will definitely keep growing, especially its mobile segment.
